Gas is a fossil fuel just like crude oil or coal. Mining and burning fossil fuels is dramatically increasing the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and accelerating climate change.
The gas used in export is highly processed; flared, filtered, compressed and then frozen to make LNG, which is then shipped overseas and reprocessed for actual use. These processes are energy intensive, releasing an enormous amount of pollution throughout the processing and transportation stages.
Australia cannot meet its international agreements on pollution while we are exporting such huge amounts of gas. By addressing some of the pollution here in WA, we can create new jobs, new industries and help to restore the environment.
